Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands. (Psalm 100:1)
This ministry exists to enable meaningful musical worship and to provide opportunities for musicians to employ and develop their talents as stewards of God’s gifts. As we use our gifts in ministry, we endeavor to model these characteristics: excellence, variety, participation, stewardship, education, and edification.
Led by BPC Music Director Dr. Rick Rowell, the choir supports worship through leadership of congregational singing and performing beautiful anthems and special selections. The Choir is open to all adults who have a pleasant singing voice and can match pitch (carry a tune). Music reading is not a prerequisite. One may expect, however, to learn these skills through participation.
Sanctuary Choir meets Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please contact Rick to express your interest in joining.
The Handbell Choir is directed by Organist Jean Rowell. It performs several times each year. Membership is open to adults who read music and may be arranged by consultation with Jean.
While JuBELLee Handbell Choir has a scheduled rehearsal time, Wednesdays, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the rehearsal calendar itself is event-driven.
Open to kids from kindergarten through sixth grade, and it is also directed by Jean Rowell. It meets on Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., in the Choir Room.
In addition to learning musical skills, children gain important insights into the importance of music in worship. The Children’s Choir presents a musical each year on a Sunday near Mother’s Day.
Broadmoor Presbyterian is fortunate to occasionally have special music provided by Music Director Rick Rowell, who is also principal trumpet with the Shreveport Symphony.
Special guest musicians like the I-49 Brass Quintet bless our congregation with their talents throughout the year.
Dr. Rowell is also leader of the I-49 Brass Quintet. Recently he presented a check for $2,000 to Maj. Mark Smith of the Salvation Army. The check represented the proceeds from the ticket sales for the Dec. 19, 2009 concert by the Quintet at BPC. The concert was sponsored by The Band House and Broadmoor Presbyterian Church along with a special gift from Nancy Darwin.
